You do the fitting while cutting/grinding, before foiling.

Lots of the pieces are obvious where they go, so you don't have to keep them on the pattern. Only a few need to stay in place or you don't know which way is up.

Or if doing a lot of one or two suncatchers (a dozen valentines to give to your friends) the pieces are all pretty much interchangeable.

I play with lots of stock bevels, too. Sometimes I foil a bunch without knowing yet what I'm going to do with them.
