KIDS pick up the technique in one session. The photos I have of the method on Silicon Folly are of a 13 year old girl. She's a whiz with them...and so are several of her cousins.
Kids' smaller fingers (although SOME 13 year-olds, but I won't go there) are ideal for foiling
I have never foiled a whole project while away from it. I cut everything. Grind briefly if necessary and fit on the pattern cartoon. Sometimes it's necessary to adjust a piece while foiling. Not gonna re-foil pieces because I didn't check the fit as they are being done.
Agreed....foiling WITHOUT constant monitoring back on the pattern is likely to make the project "grow"...fine if it's a small suncatcher/gift/geegaw thingie whose size isn't critical like a window-panel might be, but even these can soon end up with wider beads towards the outside if the inside has been allowed to grow and splay things outwards......wrap each piece and PUT IT BACK ON THE PATTERN (lathed or framed-with-cardboard if irregular-shaped ) to keep a rattle-fit. You can still have aTV on in the studio whilst foiling. But glass in the living area? What happens if you discover something needs grinding/trimming?
