going 'cheap' in lodgings depends on your comfort level and how you sleep at night. When I was there in 2004, I chose comfort (@ 10 minutes away) over convenience and paid more; but not by much if you factor in free food and washer/dryer access.
Jeffrey or others who live in that area would know better what to recommend and Tracy says to check the website for that info.
Keep in mind, hotel rates are at an all time low nationwide. Depending on when you go, you could get some really good rates for an extended stay. And don't be afraid to call and ask for a better rate. It has worked for me on numerous occasions.
If you can swing 8+ days, you won't regret it. The longer, the better.
