and because of the size, there was no way to write anything on the glass. It would have come off, regardless, once it went into the water.
I just did it the way I learned, and incorporated unveiling a section at a time.

I was taught the same way as you and after having the pattern pcs coming off the glass when in the water and loosing my #'s I started to a few pcs at a time then when ready to take them out of the water I do it one at a time , wipe dry then re # with sharpie pen.
